About Fairbanks

Fairbanks is nestled in the heart of interior Alaska and sits in a valley surrounded by rolling hills, pristine lakes, and long winding glacial fed rivers. Fairbanks is conveniently located between the Brooks Range and the Arctic to the north and Denali National Park to the south, and offers a great range of adventures. Fairbanks has a long rich history including native culture, gold rush days, and pipeline “second gold rush” times. Fairbanks is also home to University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Chena River runs right through the middle of town and is a fun and relaxing river to float in summer. Being so far away from the coast we have a wide swing of temperatures and wildlife between summer and winter. Winters can be very cold reaching 40 below regularly and in the summertime you can enjoy floating glacially fed rivers with temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s. With these large temperature swings we get migratory birds that come back in the summer and animals that hibernate during the winter. In the interior you’re likely to see moose, fox, coyotes, bears, caribou, beavers, fish, and a variety of birds.
